Acupuncturist and herbalist Jeremy Werner describes the terms "reality" and "authentic" and explains how others can heal emotions and grow and develop in relationships.

Jeremy Werner of The Earth Spirit Healing Place in Louisiana has been on a path of personal healing since 1998. Since that time, he has studied and received certificates from programs in acupuncture, reiki energy work, craniosacral therapy, and Chinese herbal medicine.

Werner's professional practice, educational workshops, and online radio talks aim to educate participants on the dynamics of mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being while integrating his concept of "Earth Spirit Medicine."

In a personal interview from November 2009, Werner discusses Earth Spirit Medicine and how to live in reality authentically:

Q. Can You Describe the Purpose of The Earth Spirit Healing Place?

"My intention in setting up The Earth Spirit Healing Place was to create a safe place for people to explore their own personal healing.

"Primarily the acupuncture and Chinese herbs are what really draw people, but the other things that I do complement that and provide something more colorful and creative than what people might normally seek out."

Q. What is Earth Spirit Medicine?

"Earth Spirit Medicine is a term I came up with to describe the intention of my work, namely that we are human beings on planet Earth with physical embodiments and that we are also feeling beings, seekers with a soul quest to know more about our origins.

"I really consider human beings as Earth Spirits in a way. So we bridge Earth and Spirit through our being. The Medicine looks at how our interconnections with each other and with nature allow for a healing process. So Earth Spirit Medicine is an interdependent relational process of bringing self-awareness and healing to human beings and life on the planet."

Q. What Is Reality?

"Reality for me relates directly with truth, in the sense that each of us, through our own filters and history, can identify personal truths in our own specific ways. We have our own way of knowing and experiencing.

"There's a feeling in your gut or you intuitively know what's right for you. Reality is a state of being that reflects a deeper truth, and each individual has a responsibility for identifying what that truth is."

Q. Can You Explain Authentic Living and Being?

"Authentic means being honest, taking what we know to be true and living it from a place of being. Living authentically is not about acting or producing as a primary means of existence. We are human beings not human doings.

"When we can tune into and express what our feelings, needs, and desires are, we can be authentic or aligned with our internal truth. By respecting each other's experiences which may be different from our own, there is a shared experience as human beings within our diversity."

Q. Can You Give Others Three Ways to Live in Reality More Authentically?

"The first way is to connect with our feeling reality. For example, when there is a feeling of anger, it relates specifically to an unmet need or desire. When I feel angry, that awareness empowers me to take appropriate action to meet an underlying need.

"Secondly, know your emotional origins. Inner child work can help us partner with the inner child inside and understand our emotional blueprint. When we know where our wounds and frozen feelings are, we have more self-awareness and power of choice.

"The third aspect is relationship. The way we relate to ourselves is directly reflected in the way we were related to as children. We cannot heal in isolation. Any kind of wounding happened in relationship and requires a safe, biased practitioner who will side with that inner child and the individual in the healing process."

Werner continues by advising a boundary system within relationships in order to contain self-worth and protect the inner child within.

Shared, trusting relationships allow an avenue for exploration of honest feelings and awareness into deeper emotional origins. Combining these elements can assist people in living in reality more authentically.
